Statement on the CPN(Maoist) on the
Martyrdom of Com. Suresh Wagle
We pronounce to the masses of the people with the sense of extreme grief, anxiety and responsibility that a popular leader of the Nepalese proletariat and working class people, a unique symbol of simplicity, sincerity and gumption, a resolute Marxist-Leninist Maoist fighter, an energetic commander of the supreme staff of the People's War for the fundamental change, an alternate member of the political bureau of the Central Committee of our Party, CPN(Maoist), Comrade Suresh Wagle (Com. Basu) has been killed cowardly after capture on 18th September '99' at 8:00 a.m., at the village Gakhu of Gorkha district, by the butchers of the national betrayer and fascist state. In course of giving birth to a new epoch by unprecedented records of sacrifice and resistance, comrade Suresh Wagle (Com. Basu) holds the highest place among the glorious martyrdom of our party comrades and the Nepalese masses.
It has become evident from the initial investigation that he accidently happened to meet a butcher gang of the enemy called commandos, while going to attend an important programme of the party. Despite his weak health, he was able to reach a peasant's house in a nearby village. In a position of being encircled by the enemy, he directed his security in charge comrade Bhimsen Pokhrel, a secretariat member of Gorkha district committee and guerilla platoon commander to escape (there was a good chance of escaping because of his physical health), with firm determination of resisting the enemy alone, by presenting an exemplary wisdom and spirit of an ideal proletarian leader.
Right at this course, the murderers who had already encircled, fired from a distant range killing Comrade Bhimsen at the spot and thus he [was] martyred first. After that the tyrant murderers asked Comrade Suresh Wagle (Com. Basu) a contemptible question of capituation or death. Comrade Suresh Wagle, displaying the real communist spirit, defied murderers with hatred and challenged 'shoot at [me], if you dare'. At last the stupid butchers who were totally unable to resist, shot him. In this way Comrade Suresh Wagle lined up himself with those martyrs, who are immortal for ever, by establishing a new ideal of resistance and sacrifice, which a proletarian Communist must have.
Comrade Suresh Wagle, who was born 46 years ago in Gorkha district, struggled consistently against the Panchayati dictatorship since his student life, and also while working as a dignified teacher of a secondary school in Gorkha district. During that time too he was active in party works as an ideologically matured Cadre. He played a role of an active leader of Gorkha district in the mass movement of 1990, after that he devoted his life for the party and the revolution. Comrade Suresh Wagle who consistently carried out resolute struggle against revisionism and opportunism, was affable in practice. Because of simple living and high thinking and practical maturity, there was a distinct greatness in his personality. Therefore he was loved and respected by the masses and pro-people personalities, like the centre of their heart, but he was just like a huge rock for the national betrayers and mass murderers. His martyrdom has caused an unprecedented loss to our whole party, Nepalese proletariat and the whole working class people. But glorious examples of immortal contribution which he has made resoluteness in principle, skilfulness in practice and readiness to sacrifice, will be inspiring to the Nepalese revolution [as] well as the world proletarian revolution for many, many years to come. Our party vows to learn from his ideals, to broadly establish his contributions among the masses and take revenge on the murderers of him well as of all the fighters, who have sacrificed their lives, by fighting in the battle ground, till the last for the cause of the revolution and offer red salute and pay emotional homage to the fallen heroes and convey heart felt condolence to their grieved family.
Today the reactionary government, which is puppet of the Indian expansionism, is conducting criminal and abominal campaign of nakedly killing and disappearing the patriotic and revolutionary people. Now it has become an urgent necessity to march further ahead resolutely to resist it, for defending the existence of the country and the people. Our party calls upon all the legalist, progressive, patriotic and democratic forces, organisations, institutions and personalities to fulfil the historical responsibility, by attacking this doom[ed] reactionary state, which is trapped in insurmountable all-round crisis and biting everything just like a mad dog. The sacrifice made by the revolutionaries will further ablaze the flames of the revolution. People's victory is inevitable.
