Don’t Extradite Nepali Revolutionary Leader C.P. Gajurel To Nepali Monarchy

The politburo member of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Com.Chandra Prakash Gajural, was arrested at Chennai Airport on 21.08.03 on the allegation that he possessed a fake British Passport. The Govt of India is planning to deport him to Nepal. Hence nine organizations in Chennai have joined together and formed a committee to save his life with Mr. A. Rahul Advocate as its Convener. The said organization is called "Committee to save the life of Nepali Revolutionary Leader C.P. Gajurel". The objectives of the committee are to oppose his deportation, to educate Indian people that the struggle for democracy undertaken by the CPN (Maoist) is not a terrorist activity and to put pressure on the Indian Govt not to interfere with the internal affairs of Nepal by joining with US imperialism.

The committee conducted a massive demonstration in front of Alandur Judicial Magistrate Court on 15.11.03 when Com. C.P. Gajurel was brought for extension of remand. Following the demonstration, the committee organised a convention on 8.11.03 between 3.30 to 9 p.m. at S.P.S. Kalyana Mandapam, Saidapet, Chennai. The meeting was chaired by Com. Gnanam, State Organiser of People’s Democratic Youth Association (PDYA), M.N.Ravunni from WPRM, Tirumavalavan MLA of State Assembly (Dalit Panthers of India) , Thyagu of Thamil Thamilar Iyakkam, Prof. Ramasamy from People’s Democratic Front, Karnataka, Pozhilan from Thamilaga Odukkappattor Viduthalai Iyakkam, Nanda Tiwari from NPRPC, Pondicherry, Vijendran from Tamil National Lawyers Centre, Sendil from Center for protecting Civil Liberties(CPCL) Tamilnadu, L.Marx from Revolutionary Youth Front, Seeralan from Revolutionary Workers Front, Gunalan from PDYA, Neenda Payanam Sundaram from CPI (ML) (Red flag) addressed the meeting. More than 700 persons from all walks of life participated in the meeting. The cultural group from NPRPC and PDYA, Tamilnadu performed a revolutionary cultural programmes. The people stood up in order to show their approval for the following two resolutions.

1. The barbaric monarchy of Nepal has ever been undemocratic and ruthless against the just and fair struggle of the people of Nepal. Hand in glove with US imperialism and the Indian reactionary expansionists, the monarchist regime, branding the struggle for democracy and freedom, as terrorism, wants to suppress it. It aims to liquidate the leaders of the struggle for democracy in Nepal. In these circumstances this meeting urge the Indian Government not to hand over C.P. Gajurel, the leader of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) to the Nepali Monarchy regime. This meeting also calls upon all patriotic, democratic and progressive personalities and forces to press this just demand and rally behind it.

2. Nowadays attacks on freedom of the press and against those who cry for Justice have become standard phenomena. The country-selling ruling classes and the Governments, irrespective of the State and Center, are left with no other way out in this situation of Globalization. This meeting considers that the attack against the journalist of ‘The Hindu’ and ‘Murasoli’ as highly outrageous, and aimed to intimidate and silence the media. It is highly shameful for a civilized society to keep mum against these increasing onslaughts against the press and dissenting voices. Hence this meeting wants to register its concern about and protest against the Tamilnadu Government’s undemocratic action. As this part of the struggle, the committee is planning to conduct a massive signature campaign in Tamilnadu to demand the unconditional release of Com. C.P. Gajurel in the light of 3 principal objectives of the committee. (extract)
